UKONVASARA
THE HAMMER OF UKKO
UKONVASARA, THE HAMMER OF UKKO
During humid midsummer nights like this, the smell of rain soaks the air. However, this time, it was something greater in the air; something that even the oldest Finns hadn’t seen before.
The dark sky tore apart, unveiling the strongest thunderstorm that any man had ever witnessed.
YLIJUMALA, THE SUPREME GOD
It was Ukko, a God of the Sky, riding his chariot along a heavenly road of stones. The sound coming from the wheels made an Earth-shaking roar of thunder. Finally, the “highly god” took his weapon – Ukonvasara, “the Hammer of Ukko” – and raised it high above his head, pointed upwards. A tremendous bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, followed by a piercing sound.

THE MAGIC POWER OF THE THUNDERSTONES
Pieces of the magical Ukonvasara rained down on Earth. When the resulting thunderstorm had washed away the topsoil, pieces of the godly hammer lay scattered on the ground and Finnish shamans emerged from hiding to search for them. The little stone-heads were revered, as they held the dual power of the ancient Ukonvasara. They held the power of both healing and harm; of life and death. From then on, every Finn would carry a boat- shaped hammer stone with them for protection.
THANKS TO RÖNKKÖ, SO WILL YOU
Inspired by the majestic power and beauty of Ukko’s Ukonvasara, Rönkkö has handcrafted a hammer- shaped rotor for the automatic winding mechanism of his newest watch collection. Each piece has the Soprod A10 movement that winds in both directions, just like the ancient hammer used to swing in the hands of Ukko.
